Abstract
A chromenoindole derivative of the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be the same or different, each represents an alkyl group, an alkyl group substituted with one or more of a cyano group, a halogen atom or an alkoxy group, an aralkyl group, a phenyl group or a phenyl group substituted with one or more of an alkyl group or a halogen atom; X represents a hydrogen atom, an alkoxy group, a dialkylamino group, an alkylarylamino group, an alkylaralkylamino group, a diaralkylamino group, an acylamino group, a halogen atom or an alkyl group; Y represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a halogen atom, an alkoxy group of a nitro group; Z represents an acyl group, or a sulfonyl group; Q.sub.1 and Q.sub.2, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a halogen atom; and A.sub.1, A.sub.2, A.sub.3 and A.sub.4, which may be the same or different, each represents a halogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group; which upon contact with an electron acceptor material forms a color with superior light fastness and which is useful as a color former in various recording materials such as pressure-sensitive recording sheets, thermosensitive recording sheets, electrothermosensitive recording sheets, and photosensitive recording sheets.
