Abstract

A catalyst support is prepared by grinding a calcined alumina to a powder, compacting the powder at an elevated pressure, recracking the compressed powder to a predetermined size particle and acid extracting the particle. The support can be composited with catalytic components such as hydrogenation components and/or zeolites and used in a variety of hydrocarbon treating processes, such as hydrorefining, hydrodesulfurization, hydroconversion, reforming, and catalytic cracking.
