Abstract

This invention relates to a magnetic recording medium comprising a support base having a surface roughness of at most 0.33 micron, a magnetic recording layer having a Young's modulus of at least 5.times.10.sup.10 dyne/cm.sup.2 and being provided on one side of the base and a cationic surface active agent layer provided on the other side of the base in a proportion of 0.2 to 500 mg/m.sup.2.
