Abstract

The compounds according to the invention are polymers, containing imidyl groups and silyl groups, of the formula ##STR1## in which Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are Si-organic radicals, a is an integer from 1 to 50 and Z, Z.sub.1 and Z.sub.2 independently of one another are each divalent organic radicals, but at least one of the radicals Z.sub.1 and Z.sub.2 is a group which contains an unsubstituted or substituted imidyl group. The products according to the invention may be prepared, for example, by a multi-stage reaction of m-phenylenediamine, 5-dimethylmaleimidyl-isophthalic acid dichloride, 3,3'-4,4'-benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and .gamma.-aminopropyl-di-n-propoxymethylsilane in solution. The products are used as adhesion promoters, for example between inorganic solids and organic resins.
