Abstract

Alkaline dishwasher detergent composition having a specific critical pH, and, preferably, a relatively high level of available chlorine, buffered with trisodium phosphate, containing a tripolyphosphate or pyrophosphate sequestering builder, and having a relatively high level of surfactant. The detergent composition is substantially free of highly alkaline materials and organic builders and preferably contains 2.0r alkali metal silicate and/or a preferred C.sub.17 -C.sub.19 polyethoxylate surfactant.
