Abstract

Overlapping, minute regions of magnetization in a recording medium, which are produced during recording and cause distortion of the played back signal, are reduced by encoding the signal in a pulse signal. The time between pulses is varied according to the amplitude of the signal to be recorded, and when this pulse signal is recorded, the minute regions are reduced to elemental size. Thus they overlap less and do not distort the reproduced signal by offsetting the zero level.
