The invention is 2-haloalkyl(oxy-, thio-, sulfinyl-, or sulfonyl)phenylalkanoic acids which are useful intermediates in the preparation of insecticides of m-phenoxybenzyl and .alpha.-cyano-m-phenoxybenzyl esters.
