Abstract

New imidazolemethylphosphonium salts having a degradable group at the 2-position which are useful intermediates for preparing histamine H.sub.2 antagonists. This invention concerns the preparation of imidazolemethylphosphonium salts having no substituent at the 2-position by heating the compounds referred to above.
