Abstract
Polymerization of ethylene or .alpha.-olefins is carried out with use of a catalyst comprising a modified titanium component obtained by pulverizing the starting titanium component of Ziegler solid catalysts and subjecting the resultant to a modification treatment through contact with an inert organic solvent or a mixture thereof with a modifier, and an organoaluminum component. The pulverized product of the starting titanium component is pulverized together with an organoaluminum compound and a small amount of ethylene or .alpha.-olefins thereby controlling the particle size distribution.
