Abstract

A method and apparatus wherein novel adaptive encoding and decoding processes are utilized to reduce the quantity of symbols or descripters required to transmit or store different classes of digital information. The codes used to describe repetitious binary sequences are caused to vary in length in accordance with a well-defined procedure to more efficiently represent the original data.
