Abstract
Alcohols, particularly linear saturated primary alcohols, are manufactured from CO and H.sub.2 in the presence of a catalyst comprising at least 4 essential elements, copper, cobalt, a third metal selected from chromium, iron, vanadium and manganese, and at least one alkali metal. A preferred method for manufacturing the catalyst is also described; it comprises the use of a complexant, such as citric acid.
