Abstract

Nickel/hydrogen cells have a long cycle life and other attributes making them desirable for electric vehicle applications, but their cost is high. Cost reduction is obtained by the use of positive electrodes with high capacity per unit area, e.g. porous sintered nickel oxide electrodes, which contain absorbed therein major quantities of the electrolyte. The structure of positive and hydrophilic negative electrodes and of separators is specially adapted for this purpose.
