Abstract
A method is disclosed for the prophylactic treatment of mastitis in milk-producing animals. The method comprises dipping the teats of the animal into a composition comprising a film-forming polymer latex and a water-soluble polymer thickening agent in an aqueous medium. The composition has a thixotropic value of 15 to 1200 dynes/cm.sup.2 and an upper viscosity limit of 10 poise at a shear rate of 250 sec.sup.-1.
