Abstract

Diphenylamines of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represent hydrogen, halogen or lower alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms with at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 being other than hydrogen; R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, and R.sub.7 each independently represent hydrogen or lower alkyl optionally substituted with hydroxy, carbamyl, piperidinyl or acylamino; R.sub.3 and R.sub.6 or R.sub.4 and R.sub.7 also optionally forming together with the carbon and nitrogen atoms to which they are attached, a dihydrooxazine or pyrroline heterocycle; and Z represents amino, acylamino or hydroxy; and the acid salts of said diphenylamines. These diphenylamines are usefully employed in cosmetic compositions for the hair including hair dye compositions and hair setting lotion compositions.
