Abstract

Catalysts for the catalytic oxidation of organic compounds containing silicon, vanadium, sulfur, oxygen and at least one alkali metal element. The catalyst is prepared from a silicic acid which has an average particle size of less than 50 microns and an alkali metal content of less than 2% by weight, calculated as Na.sub.2 O and expressed relative to anhydrous silicic acid.
