Abstract

Iodine pentafluoride is produced from gaseous fluorine and molten iodine by contacting the iodine with fluorine in a reaction zone maintained at a temperature in the range of about 114.degree. to about 280.degree. C. The process results in high yields of pure iodine pentafluoride.
