Abstract

A new process for preparing 5-oxo-tetrahydroquinolines comprises condensing a compound of formula II with a ##STR1## compound of formula III to obtain a compound of formula I wherein R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are selected from hydrogen and lower alkyl. Compounds of formula I are intermediates for pharmaceuticals.
