Abstract
Fruit abscission is induced by application to a fruit bearing plant of particular 1,2-bis(thioalkyl)alkanes and derivatives thereof optionally in combination with nonphytotoxic surfactant different from said alkanes and derivatives. The alkanes and derivatives have the structural formula ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl group having 8-10 carbon atoms and both X's are the same and are selected from the group consisting of thiomethyl, thioethyl, sulfinylmethyl, sulfinylethyl, sulfonylmethyl, and sulfonylethyl.
