Abstract
Carbamates of diethyl methylphosphonate of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be the same or different, are linear or branched alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radicals containing 2 or 3 carbon atoms, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a ring containing 4 or 5 carbon atoms, or R.sub.1 is phenyl and R.sub.2 is hydrogen, may be prepared by reacting diethyl hydroxymethyl-phosphonate chloroformate with an amine, and find application in flameproofing rigid or flexible polyurethane foams.
