Abstract
Compounds of the formula ##STR1## and alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts thereof, wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different and each is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl, polyhaloalkyl, haloalkoxy, polyhaloalkoxy or halo; R.sup.3 is methyl, hydroxy or amino; are produced by treating the corresponding 3-cyanoquinoxaline-di-N-oxide of the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as above defined, with hydrogen sulfide or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt thereof. When a salt of hydrogen sulfide is used, the resulting mercaptide product may be converted to the corresponding mercaptan by treatment with an acid to produce the corresponding 2-mercaptoquinoxaline-di-N-oxide.
