Abstract

The present invention is concerned with quaternary ammonium-hydroxyaryl compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic residue of high molecular weight, R.sub.2 a monocyclic benzene residue, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents a short-chain divalent aliphatic residue and A an aromatic residue which contains at most 2-six-membered rings and is linked through a cyclic carbon atom with the oxygen atom. The new compounds are useful for controlling harmful microorganisms.
