Abstract
Novel process for preparing sorbic acid comprising contacting .gamma.-vinyl-.gamma.-butyrolactone with an acid such as mineral acids, sulfonic acids or halogenated carboxylic acids or a cation-exchange resin at a temperature of 30.degree. to 150.degree. C. Sorbic acid is economically prepared with ease and with simple procedures.
