Abstract
Vinyl chloride is removed from a slurry or latex that contains from 100 to 15,000 parts per million of vinyl chloride and 5% to 50% by weight of a vinyl chloride polymer by adding to the slurry or latex from about 0.5% to 20% of its weight of a compound selected from the group consisting of vinyl acetate, methylene chloride, di-tert.butyl-p-cresol, and mixtures thereof, maintaining the resulting mixture at a temperature between 25.degree. C. and 125.degree. C. under vacuum, and removing the vinyl chloride vapor that is evolved until the slurry or latex contains not more than 50 ppm of vinyl chloride.
