Abstract

A process for the production of an .omega.-formyl carboxylic acid ester, comprising reacting an enol ether of a cyclic ketone with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of a compound of boron or of a metal of the Fifth or Sixth Secondary Group of the Periodic Table. Advantageously the enol ether has the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is alkyl of 1 to about 3 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 5 or 6 carbon atoms or phenyl optionally substituted by fluorine, chlorine, alkoxy of 1 to about 3 carbon atoms, cyano or phenyl,
