Abstract

Dimethylaminobenzenecarboxylic acid esters are produced by reaction of nitrobenzenecarboxylic acid esters with formaldehyde and hydrogen under pressure in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst containing metals of atomic numbers 24 to 29 and of a weak acid, at temperatures from 35.degree. to 150.degree. C. The products are starting materials for the synthesis of dyes, especially of crystal violets, and of reactive dyes and pesticides.
