Abstract

A method is disclosed for increasing the acid catalytic activity of a crystalline zeolitic aluminosilicate having a Group IIA cation as a substantial portion of its cations, having at least 6-Angstrom-sized pores and being substantially free of hydrogen cations. The activating procedure comprises in sequence a treatment with a reducing atmosphere followed by a treatment with an oxygen-containing gas, the former treatment being at a temperature above 700.degree. C.
