Abstract

A process for preparing 2-thioadenosine, useful as an intermediate for the preparation of S-substituted-2-thioadenosines having a platelet aggregation inhibitory activity and a coronary vasodilating activity, which comprises reacting 5-amino-1-.beta.-D-ribofuranosylimidazole-4-carboxamide oxime or an O-substituted oxime thereof with carbon disulfide in a closed reaction zone at a temperature of from about 50.degree. to about 200.degree. C in a solvent.
