Optical device comprising two optical elements made of germanium arranged parallel to each other and intended to have a high-power CO.sub.2 laser beam crossing through them; helium at low temperature flows between the two optical elements and a dry nitrogen flux is directed towards at least one of the input and output faces of the device.
