Abstract
The nuclear hydroxylation of aromatic compounds is effected by treating said compounds with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst comprising an alkaline solution containing a salt of hydrocyanic acid at conditions which include a temperature in the range of from -10.degree. to about 100.degree. C. and a pressure in the range of from about atmospheric to about 100 atmospheres.
