Abstract

Alkylisocyanates are manufactured by thermal decomposition of N-alkylcarbamic acid halides in the vapor state, at not less than 20.degree.C above their boiling points, in a plurality of reaction chambers, the bulk of the hydrogen halide formed in each reaction chamber being separated off. The products are starting materials for the manufacture of plant protection agents, pesticides, dyes, resins and plastics, textile waterproofing agents, detergents, bleaches and adhesives.
