Abstract
In the preparation of 5-isopropyl-3-methyl-phenol from 3-methyl-phenol carrying at least one isopropyl radical or in the presence of propene by heating in the presence of a catalyst, the improvement which comprises effecting said heating at a temperature of about 200.degree. to 400.degree.C in the presence, as a catalyst, of synthetic aluminum silicate which has not been treated with acid. The reaction can involve isopropylation, isomerization and/or transisopropylation.
