1. Compounds of the general formula ##EQU1## in which R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of ##EQU2## 6. A process for the preparation of compounds of the general formula in which R.sup.2 is as defined in claim 1, which comprises nitrating, with a mixture of sulfuric and nitric acids, diols of the general formula ##EQU3## in which R.sup.2 is as defined in claim 1.
