Abstract

A novel aminoglycoside antibiotic, xylostasin, of the nomenclature O-.beta.-D-xylofuranosyl-(1.fwdarw.5)-O-[.alpha.-2,6-diamino-2,6-dideoxy-D -glucopyranosyl-(1.fwdarw.4)]-2-deoxystreptamine and its pharmaceutically acceptable acid salts which are effective against infections with bacteria, and a process for producing the antibiotic by cultivating a strain belonging to the genus Bacillus which is capable of producing the antibiotic.
