Abstract
A hydrous composition for stabilizing finely divided soils comprises a gum swellable when hydrated, such as sodium alginate; water; and an alcohol, such as methanol, in an amount sufficient to prevent the composition from setting prior to use. The composition is added to finely divided soils in an amount of about 5-25 gallons per foot mile per six inch lift. A hardener having a source of calcium, such as CaCl.sub.2, is applied to the soil to harden the composition.
