Abstract

Hydrocarbons are reacted with a silver tri-halogenomethane sulfonate of the formula ##EQU1## wherein X, Y and Z each represents a halogen atom, to form the corresponding complexes, and then the thus formed complexes are decomposed to selectively separate the desired hydrocarbon components. The used silver tri-halogenomethane sulfonate also is recovered by the decomposition of the complexes.
