Abstract

Vinyl esters, such as vinyl acetate, are copolymerized, especially with ethylene or maleate or fumarate diester to provide adhesives which develop water resistance through cure by including in the copolymer at least 0.5% of an N-methylol functional derivative of an allyl carbamate etherified with a C.sub.1 - C.sub.8 alcohol. The monomers are stabilized during the copolymerization by an hydroxy functional protective colloid.
