Abstract
Reaction of halides of alkyl and aryl phosphonic acids of the formula RP(O)X.sub.2, where R is an C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl or aryl, e.g., phenyl, group or a halo- substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl group or aryl group, e.g., phenyl, and an epoxy group containing alcohol of the formula ##EQU1## where n is an integer from 1 to 8, e.g., glycidol, give a compound having the formula ##EQU2## where R and n are as defined above which can be used as a flame retardant in polyurethane foams.
