Abstract
A counterbalance for a fume hood is located behind the back of the hood and is connected to each side of the sash by a pair of cable portions which are routed from the counterblanace over the top of the hood by pulleys on the top of the hood. The counterbalance comprises a container which can be filled with a desired amount of weight material, and a roller on the container is engageable with the back of the hood to prevent sliding contact between the counterbalance and the hood. The weight of the sash can be adjusted to equal the weight of the counterbalance by inserting weights into a weight-receiving receptacle formed in the frame member attached to the upper edge of the sash glass.
