Abstract
A process for the manufacture of higher vicinal diols or polyols by hydrolysis of the corresponding mono- or poly-epoxides, characterized in that the hydrolysis is carried out using aqueous solutions of salts of aliphatic mono- and/or polycarboxylic acids and temperatures above 100.degree.C, preferably 200.degree. to 350.degree.C, and if necessary, in the presence of dissolving intermediaries.
