Abstract
Soft thermoplastic segmented copolyester elastomers consisting essentially of a multiplicity of recurring short chain ester units and long chain ester units joined through ester linkages, said short chain ester units amounting to about 15 to less than 30 percent by weight of said copolyester and being derived from a mixture of aromatic dicarboxylic acids such as a mixture of terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid containing about 55 to 95 percent by weight of terephthalic acid, and butanediol, and said long chain ester units amounting to more than 70 to 85 percent by weight of said copolyester and being derived from a mixture of aromatic dicarboxylic acids such as a mixture of terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid containing about 55 to 95 percent by weight of terephthalic acid, and polytetramethylene ether glycol having an average molecular weight of about 1500 to 3500, said copolyester having a melt index of less than about 30 and a melting point of about 90.degree. to 130.degree.C. give superior performance when formulated into pressure sensitive adhesives. Such adhesive compositions comprise (A) about 1 to 99 percent by weight of the soft thermoplastic segmented copolyester and (B) about 1 to 99 percent by weight of one or more low molecular weight thermoplastic resins.
