Abstract
An image processing apparatus functions as an acquisition unit to acquire a Perceptual Quantization (PQ) image comprised of a High Dynamic Range (HDR) signal conforming to Perceptual Quantization (PQ), and information relating to a maximum luminance value of the PQ image, a conversion unit to convert the PQ image into a Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) image comprised of an HDR signal conforming to Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), and to convert the information relating to the maximum luminance value, and an association unit to associate the HLG image with the converted information relating to the maximum luminance value. The conversion unit converts the PQ image into the HLG image and converts the information relating to the maximum luminance by applying a transfer function including an electro-optical transfer function conforming to the PQ (PQ EOTF) and, thereafter, applying a transfer function including an opto-electronic transfer function conforming to the HLG (HLG OETF).
