Abstract
A quantum optimization system and method for improving performance of variational quantum algorithms using classical post-processing of a measured quantum state. A classical computer estimates, for a quantum state, an expectation value of a Hamiltonian based on expectation values of the observables. The Hamiltonian may be expressed as a linear combination of the observables. The classical computer transforms one or both of the Hamiltonian and the quantum state to reduce the expectation value of the Hamiltonian.
