Abstract

A method of making a doped-, sintered-body includes selecting or modifying a grain size distribution to be sintered such that the distribution includes a spike in concentration of larger grains. The method then includes not overly pressing the grains together, prior to sintering, such that the pressed grains still include large pores. The method includes interrupting sintering when smaller pores in the partially-sintered body are closed but larger pores remain open and interconnected with one another throughout the partially-sintered body. The method includes infusing the partially sintered body with a fluid dopant, where the fluid dopant may be joined into a molecular network of the body as the body is further sintered to form a fully-sintered, -doped body.
