Abstract
An attractive magnetic movement and locking system uses groups of laterally stationary under-floor magnets to create an attractive potential well which magnetically attracts and pulls a mover towards the well, and locks it in place. The under-floor magnets adjust their strength through actuations or currents to move the attractive potential well, pull the mover and lock and unlock the mover's position. Locking can be accomplished with permanent magnet pairs, or with permanent magnets paired with ferrous material. Locking capability can be used instead of a counterweight to stabilize a forklift and minimize tipping risk. The system can precisely position a configuration space unit, and lock it in place for an operation. Spring-mounted mover wheels and non-backdriveable actuators increase the locking strength.
