Abstract

A method of operating a motor vehicle includes a vehicle controller using a digital road map and/or a resident camera module to estimate a lateral tilt angle of a roadway segment forward of the vehicle. The controller predicts a lateral acceleration and yaw moment of the roadway segment using the lateral tilt angle and respective lateral forces on the vehicle's wheel assemblies; a traction steer event is detected when the predicted lateral acceleration and/or yaw moment exceed respective acceleration and yaw thresholds. Upon forecasting traction steer, the controller calculates one or more vehicle control actions designed to redress traction steer using an optimization function that minimizes a discrepancy between predicted and desired lateral accelerations and a discrepancy between predicted and desired yaw moments. In response to the forecasted traction steer event, a resident steer-by-wire system, adjustable ride-height system, and/or adaptive wheel camber system execute(s) the vehicle control action(s).
