Abstract

A system for vehicle wheel position localization includes sensors mounted on each tire of a vehicle. Each axle of the vehicle is associated with a first directional antenna arranged to capture wireless output signals from each tire on one side and a second directional antenna arranged to capture wireless output signals from each tire on the other side. A data processing unit (e.g., onboard controller, remote server) receives the output signals from each sensor via at least the respective directional antennas, and automatically identifies respective wheel locations on the vehicle based on a mapped relative location for each of the directional antennas and further based on a detected relative output signal strength for any tire and/or wheel sensors associated with axles having a plurality of tires on each side of the vehicle. A switching device may optionally enable selection between each directional antenna for implementation of the respective output signals.
