Abstract
A secure serial peripheral interface ('SPI') storage device is disclosed. The SPI storage device includes a memory and an SPI controller, which receives digitally signed commands on an SPI bus for performing various types of operations, such as operations for writing to or reading from the memory. The SPI controller can verify the signatures of a signed command using a public encryption key associated with a sender of the command. If the SPI controller can authenticate a signed command, the SPI controller performs the requested command. The SPI controller then returns a signed response to the signed command. The SPI controller can also perform integrity checking on data stored in the memory by computing and storing hash values for portions of the memory. The signed commands and signed responses can also be encrypted.
