Abstract
A rotation device includes a rotator having a recessed portion on its outer circumferential surface. The rotator rotates in a predetermined rotation direction while a contact unit engages a portion of the outer circumferential surface spanning from an upstream end to a downstream end of the recessed portion. A contact surface is provided at an upstream end portion of this range. The contact surface engages the contact unit at a second engagement depth that is less than a first engagement depth at a downstream portion of the range. This arrangement inhibits the contact unit or the rotator from rapidly restoring to an original state as the contact unit transitions past the recessed portion, thereby reducing vibration. The rotation device may be incorporated into an image forming apparatus that transfers toner images to a recording medium.
