Abstract
A marine propulsion system for a marine vessel is provided. The system includes at least one marine drive having an internal combustion engine configured to combust fuel, a sensor used to determine the alcohol content of the fuel supplied to the internal combustion engine, and a memory storing a reference calibration for engine output. The system further includes one or more controllers configured to receive the alcohol content, determine a modification to at least one engine parameter based on the alcohol content of the fuel so that the engine performs according to at least a portion of the reference calibration. The engine parameter comprises a throttle position, a spark timing, an air-fuel ratio, a boost pressure, an exhaust gas recirculation or a camshaft timing. The one or more controllers are further configured to operate the at least one marine drive according to the modified engine parameter.
