Optimized backup for massive-scale cloud-native object storage and serverless databases

Abstract

Technological improvements enable a data storage management system to capture and timely back up data from massive-scale data repositories in cloud-native object storage and/or cloud-native serverless databases. The prior art presented major challenges in backing up a huge object storage repository comprising billions of data objects, and/or backing up an equivalently massive serverless database, by being too slow to satisfy customers' Recovery Point Objective (RPO). An illustrative object storage agent is deployed as a cloud-based resource for orchestrating data backup operations from a cloud object storage repository of any size. Depending on the RPO, the illustrative data storage management system flexibly pivots to a suitable configuration to satisfy the RPO. An illustrative database storage agent is deployed as a cloud-based resource for orchestrating backup operations from a serverless database of any size. Both agents may be concurrently deployed and may concurrently operate within the system.
